Gas Stations in Taiwan (2012)

It has always been touching for me to experience the transition between day and night: while the world seems to leap into desperate darkness, artificial lights starts to bring hope and warmth into our surroundings.

In Chinese, "Gas Stations", "add gas (加油)" means "encouragement and keep going". Gas stations give energy silently and steadily to people wherever in Taiwan, the island I live in. Partly inspired by the Bechers, who began their work at my age (during this series' execution), I decided to photograph 24 gas stations around Taiwan to encourage my 24th year in life.
